5 Things Claude Can Do for You Today

You don't need to be a techie to get value from AI. Here are five practical ways to put Claude to work right now.

You've heard about AI. Maybe you've even tried it once or twice. But a lot of people aren't sure how it actually fits into their everyday life. Here are five genuinely useful things you can do with Claude today — no tech background required.

1. Rewrite that email you've been avoiding

We all have that one email sitting in drafts that we just can't get right. Maybe it's too aggressive, too passive, or you just don't know how to start. Paste what you have into Claude and say "This needs to sound more professional" or "Can you soften the tone?" You'll have something sendable in about 30 seconds.

2. Understand something confusing

Got a letter from your insurance company? A contract you need to sign? A news article about something you don't quite follow? Paste it in and ask Claude to explain it in plain English. "What does this actually mean for me?" is one of the most useful questions you can ask.

3. Brainstorm a gift, plan, or idea

Claude is surprisingly good at generating options. "My mom loves gardening and her birthday is next week — what should I get her?" or "I'm planning a weekend trip to a city I've never visited — what should I do?" It won't just list generic ideas; give it details and it gives you something genuinely tailored.

4. Practice a hard conversation

Have a difficult talk coming up — a negotiation, a confrontation, a job interview? Ask Claude to roleplay it with you. "Pretend you're my manager and I need to ask you for a raise. Push back a little." It's a surprisingly good way to prepare.

5. Learn something new in 10 minutes

Pick anything you've been curious about but haven't had time to look into. Ask Claude to give you a beginner-friendly overview. "Explain how the stock market works" or "What's the deal with sourdough starter?" or "Why do people talk about the importance of sleep?" Ten minutes of conversation can give you more than an hour of random Googling.

The common thread? Claude works best when you treat it like a knowledgeable friend you can think out loud with. Start with something real, and go from there.
